Spill Prove Alcohol Stove // How To
Переглядів 3,7 тис.Рік тому
Alcohol stoves such as the Trangia or Toaks work well but are not spillproof. So if you knock them over, they will spill burning alcohol, which can be very dangerous. This alcohol stove is spillproof, making it much safer to use. The ceramic fiber insulation keeps the alcohol safely inside the burner, even if the stove is knocked over! And since it's not a jet stove, it's very easy to build. Al...

Roswell vs. Gretsch Filtertron // Pickup Shootout!
Переглядів 24 тис.2 роки тому
Let's compare a Roswell Filter'Tron style Pickup with a Gretsch Filter'Tron. Some of you are familiar with Roswell pickups in Harley Benton guitars. The Filtertron is Gretsch's own humbucker, designed by Ray Butts for Chet Atkins. The patent on them was granted later, but the prototypes seem to predate Gibson's humbuckers. Typically they are around 4 to 5K with much larger magnets and a smaller...

Sir linseed oil possible out door
I don't see that is a good example.
Wie löst du die kabel. Müssen die abgelötet werden? Meine müssen erneuert werden, deswegen frage ich
That is beautiful:)
Angle grinder squad🫵🏼
What a great video. You've got me wanting to try this.
Gonna try my first fret leveling job next week... hope petient will feel better :D
Nice! May I know where can I buy the schellack?
How can we get that pattern ? Thank you.
Please look at the video description. :-)
The thing people always miss is there are inexpensive pickups that are well made and there cheaply made pickups that sound cheap. I purchased a $80 pair of pickups that are will made and sound very good.
Thanks for the great video. It is also important to check for strightness of the neck once truss rod is adjusted
This is a great build. Thank you.
I have recently decided to stop using adjustable truss rods in my guitar builds altogether. I use three 18" x .25" x .25" carbon fiber rods spaced at .375" on center. There is a small amount of natural relief that occurs under normal string tension, about .005". This can be increased by selectively dressing frets 4-9 a few thousandths lower than the rest of the frets, with emphasis on frets 6 and 7. My issue with mechanical truss rods has to do with the impracticality of servicing them should they fail. It seems silly to remove wood to install a device, which, in essence, replaces what that wood is meant for, but which is significantly more flexible. Enough luthiers have had long term success with only carbon fiber that I am confident in and convinced of its efficacy.
is it necessary to sand the wood before applying?
Depends on the condition of the surface. If the wood is rough sawn, I would definitely sand it ;-)
No frills, no expensive tools and no nonsense. Great video thanks
Snow-white next project please
Looks beautiful.
2:56 hi, just starting off. Very impressive, but can't see what tools you're using as you change them so fast 😓
I've used many different "cheap" Chinese pups over the years, but I have noticed a wide range of variance in what's claimed and what I actually get. For example, those staggered alnicos in clear bobbins could be stated to be 6.0κΩ, but have a range of more than ±20% :. be as low as 4.8 or as high as 7.2κΩ. I've occasionally had received pups that are overwound by more than 25%! On flip side, it's also not unusual for me to receive a dead pup too. Since I order in AAmazon and eBay, I usually get at least a partial or full refund from the seller. Since they used to be so cheap, I used to order 2-3 sets at a time and mix n match pups to make a set that works for me. After the 4th or 5th guitar I have enough extra pups to just order one set and use the extras from past orders to make me a working set of the values and sound I wanted, from mild slightly underwound set to seriously overwound sets or mild neck/middle coupled with a hotter bridge. I've also tried Fleor pups which seems to be more consistently better quality in that I've never gotten a dead pup from them, however they're also have DCRs that varies about ±10%, rarely more, which is better too. Fleor is about evenly distributed in the variance range, whilst the clear bobbins are more consistently overwound than underwound, tis not unusual to see up to more than +25%. Nowdays tho, the "cheap" Chinese pups are getting significantly more expensive that I've lately have been buying from brands like Guitar Madness and other smaller brands that offers similarly priced alnico pups that has proven to be of good value and sounds pretty darn good! Some are US pup makers and offers excellent value for their prices that generally sits between the Chinese Cheapos and the Big Name Brands like Seymour, EMG, DiMarzio, Fishman and others. GM so far is very consistent in it's actual DCR values to stated values, usually within ±7.5% spread. GM so far haven't disappointed.
This video is fantastic. Thanks for posting it!!! I do have a question. I was almost finished with the process and when I added some alcohol to my pad, it dripped on the piece. 😞 leaving dripmarks that ate thru the finish. I hope to not make that mistake again..Is there anyway around starting over and if so, how do you remove the shellac? Thanks again!
Unfortunately, all you can do is sand down and polish on additional coats. Sometimes I see people melt shellac into the defect, then sand off the excess and put on a few more coats. But that never worked for me.
Thanks again. 😂
Great video, no expensive tools, down to earth simple how to! Great stuff!
How about one that is built using a pop can with jets ? I want one I can put directly on the can and not have the flames snuff out ? What is the boil time ?
I have a classical guitar which are more delicate and I'm worried that so much heat could cause issues. Since I would like to completely replace the fretboard with a new one, would it be safer to plane or sand off the fretboard so that no heat is involved ?
I don't think heat is a problem. But of course you can plane or sand it down, since you don't want to keep the original fretboard.
Sounds better than my Fender
Excellent and to the point! Thank you.
Was the Roswell the Alnico 2 or alnico 5?
What kind of wire did you use?
Excellent instructions. Thank you for making and sharing this video 8 years ago. I’ll try this one day when I make something ideal. Maybe a chest for keeping precious metals 🙂
Genius 😁
Outstanding video. Thank you for showing us (in such a clear, direct, joyful way) that we can learn to work on our own guitars with confidence. All the best. ❤
I mean.. your playing makes them both sound good lol.
Hi there, new here, was wondering, if you wanted to paint this, what type of paint would you recommend (acrylic?) and would you seal it?
I'm really not an expert when it comes to paint. I think acrylic paint should be fine. I don't know if it still needs to be sealed. I guess it doesn't need to be sealed though.
I am finishing a bass guitar made of pine and banak, I am finishing it with cherry color Danish oil, started getting frustrated because the finish felt sticky in some areas and some areas seem dryer. the missing step I was not performing was to apply the Danish oil with a piece of sandpaper, it makes a HUGE improvement. Thank you for posting this video. Greetings from Mexico.
I wonder how much of the difference between them was because they were in two different guitars. I would've loved to swap the Roswell into the maple-topped Tele as a back-to-back comparison.
Not the same tone woods Not the same bridge and saddles Difficult to find out where do come the tone changes...
What wood is shaft made with?
Would you use by chance instead of super glue I could use wood glue
What about this AND swapping the diodes
Vielen Dank, das hat mir endlich geholfen!
Das freut mich! :-)
Amazing. Yeah, I got an Inanez Gio, because I couldn't afford a decent guitar, and the fretboard is all buzzy. It's extremely disappointing, because I'm literally poor, and I have nothing but this guitar. I had to sell all of my stuff a year and a half ago, and I haven't can't seem to get a decent job. I'll be having to do this myself, too. Lmfao!
This is a fantastic video which I thank you for and appreciate. Yet, I'm concerned how the initial sanding of the low "medium" frets which are most worn down at many key points will be sanded "into submission" or to such a low level that they will become necessary to replace, and therefore extremely expensive to the point where its just easier to buy another guitar. That's a problem for me as my (EVH Wolfgang Special made in Japan) guitar has become quite rare, hard to find., and becoming crazy expensive. Any suggestions for best way to proceed to save my guitar??
Unfortunately you can only level the frets so much before they need to be replaced. You could refret the guitar with stainless steel frets but that would change the tone a bit.
Very clear info- thank you. Now I just need to find Tru Oil in Canada!
Sweet!
😳WOW
Great video, thanks a lot!
Where are they made? the link you've previously shared takes us to a german page?
Don't know. Maybe you can find something on the webpage?!: roswellpickups.com/
@@FabiansTinyWorkshop I'm trying to decide on a set of these for a G5420
Hello, has this ever been used on a classical acoustic guitar ( or nylon or metal strings)? How is it attached? Does the top of the guitar have to be drilled into? or is it stuck on with something like contact cement?. Does it muffle the sound from an acoustic guitar? Can the pick guard be used percussion wise to drum on or does the leather dampen any drum beat? When playing does the thickness matter in terms of it being too high and close to the strings? Curious because trying to figure out how to use this for sound and handling of the guitar purposes?
Unfortunately, I cannot answer questions regarding acoustic guitars. On this electric guitar it is attached with screws.
@@FabiansTinyWorkshopthanks for taking the time to reply
nice video! I would like to hear both pickups with overdrive and fuzz too though
